FMD Outbreak in Guinea Affects Cattle Herds
GUINEA - The Guinean veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Mandiana, affecting cattle herds.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Friday, 7 March. According to the report, the outbreak was first suspected on 15 February and confirmed on 27 February.
Cattle of all ages were affected. A total of 100 animals were found susceptible, out of which 54 cases and six deaths were reported. None of the animals were destroyed and/or slaughtered.
Contact with infected animal(s) at grazing/watering has been traced as the main source of the outbreak.
Some of the control measures applied to contain the situation include:
- Quarantine
- Movement control inside the country
None of the affected animals have been vaccination. However, the affected animals have received treatment (disinfection of ulcers and treatment with oxytetracycline 20%).
